Brenton Skating Plaza, an open air facility located in downtown Des Moines, is the ideal location for various events including ceremonies, social events, festivals, shows, and concerts.

SCHEDULE OF HOURS

The PLAZA is available April 1 through October 31 each year.   The available hours of use are 9:00 am until midnight seven days a week, subject to weather and other scheduled events.

PLAZA HIGHLIGHTS

The PLAZA is an open air facility approximately 160 feet long and 60 feet wide, with adjacent restroom facilities.

The capacity of the PLAZA is 1,028 people standing, 480 people seated theatre style and 315 people seated at tables.

The PLAZA is handicapped accessible. Handicapped parking is also available.

The PLAZA is ideal for music and dancing.  An amplification system is available for use.

LOCATION

The PLAZA is located at 520 Robert D. Ray Drive in the heart of DOWNTOWN DES MOINES.

The Brenton Skating Plaza is conveniently located along The Principal Riverwalk, in the heart of Des Moines. The center is easily accessible along the waterfront and just blocks away from the city’s other downtown attractions, including the Science Center of Iowa, Principal Park, the East Village, the Historical Building, the State Capitol, and a number of dining and entertainment venues.

PARKING

Public Parking is available at two municipal parking lots conveniently located near the PLAZA and on the surrounding streets. Handicap parking is available in the above listed municipal parking lots.

Usage Fees

Brenton Skating Plaza staff will be on site for the entire event.

Chairs and tables are the responsibility of the group/event organizer.

Reservations

The PLAZA is available for rental daily until midnight subject to weather and other scheduled events.   Reservations for the PLAZA are on a first come, first served basis and may be made no more than one (1) year in advance. Any group or organization that establishes an annual public activity on a specific day or date will have 14 days after the event to reserve the same day or date for the next year. After this deadline, the date will become open and available for reservation.

Security Deposit

Security Deposit is $150.00.  Brenton Skating Plaza reserves the right to require a higher security deposit depending on the number of people expected to attend and/or the nature of the event. The security deposit is returnable upon satisfactory completion of the rental agreement.

Clean-up

The group/organization is responsible for all clean up of the PLAZA and surrounding site and will incur additional costs for any costs to return the PLAZA to “as found” condition. These costs will be deducted from the security deposit and additional charges will apply in the event the security deposit does not cover the cost to return the PLAZA to an “as found” condition. Trash must be removed from the PLAZA and placed in designated areas.

Admissions Surcharge

There will be an admission surcharge (to be determined) collected from every person who pays an admission charge to any event at the PLAZA for events coordinated by commercial entities.

Non-profit organizations, as stated above, will be exempt from this surcharge.
